To sustain the Cienega Watershed into the future, we need your engagement now.
Imagine visiting the watershed in a hundred years. What would you hope to hear or to see–a mountain lion in Gardner Canyon wash? An antelope with her newborn fawn? The wind blowing through the Cienega Creek cottonwood trees? Or the intact grasslands stretching across Cienega Creek into the mountains.
To ensure that these opportunities continue and to sustain the waters flowing unseen below, we have to act to understand and manage this watershed.
Why? Cienega Creek is one of the last flowing lowland desert creeks.
Already vulnerable due to recent drought, it is threatened by potential increases in groundwater pumping. In a land where the majority of riparian waterways and their green lines formed by cottonwood and willow trees are threatened (even lost in the last 100 years), the Cienega Watershed Partnership (CWP) works to preserve one of the last flowing and closest creeks to Tucson, Arizona.
You can make an impact and help leave a legacy. Can we count on you to join us as a member today? What could you stretch to give with your time, expertise, or pocket?
